Tip #1: Recognize that we all experience fear

It is part of our shared humaniity. But we do teand to feel that we are all alone and this leads us to isolate ourselves. We become so used to being alone that we start to feel like we have no other choice but to go into survival mode. However, everyone experiences fear, and it’s not just us. By remembering that we are all in this together, we can begin to feel more connected to one another.

Tip #2: Fear is generated in a part of the brain that responds to threats in our environment

Our brain interprets difficulties as threats and activates our fear alert system when we encounter them. When we are aware of this, we can take the time to remind ourselves that the system has been activated. This process can help us avoid experiencing negative consequences of our actions.

Tip #3: Assess & Affrim : Take a quick moment to say to yourself “Fear is here”

When our primitive brain is activated, we can be swept away by uncomfortable emotions and physical sensations. Saying something as simple as “fear is here” or “I’m experiencing fear” brings our prefrontal cortex online. It’s like pressing the brakes instead of the gas.
